Escape from the bustling city to this serene lake in Ipoh. Hidden amongst majestic limestone hills, the lake at Tasik Cermin is a sight to behold for the unique mirror-like effect that it gives off. Journey through the tunnels by boat and be prepared to be transported to a state of utter calm by the stunning views of the ‘mirror lake’, reflecting the enchanting sights of the hills and trees that surround it.

Located near Gunung Rapat in Ipoh, Tasik Cermin can be found at the foot of some famous limestones of the city. This extraordinary lake is named Tasik Cermin after its beautiful reflection and it is due to its uniqueness that it was named one of the many geoparks by the Malaysian government.

There are two main lakes in Tasik Cermin; Tasik Cermin 1 Mirror Lake and Tasik Cermin 2 Hidden World. Hop onto boats that will take you on a great adventure through tunnels and past magnificent hills to capture the beauty of the lake. The ideal time to visit Tasik Cermin is in the morning, as the reflections are best viewed when the morning sun is at its brightest.

To reach Tasik Cermin 1 Mirror Lake, you will have to walk through a 90-metre mining tunnel. Fun fact: this limestone tunnel was once a former mining tunnel, which is now over 100 years old.

Soon as you exit the tunnel, you will be greeted by a glorious view of a wide lake surrounded by rolling green hills. Be sure to opt for the boat ride to journey along the lakeside trail, passing picture-perfect spots and to catch a glimpse of limestone karst. Each boat ride along Tasik Cermin 1 takes approximately 20 minutes.

Tasik Cermin 2 Hidden World can only be explored by sailing on a boat. Tasik Cermin 2 is the perfect example of a hidden gem, as you will have to travel through a 130-metre-long water tunnel to reach the lake, a testament to Tasik Cermin 2 living up to its name; Hidden World.

At Tasik Cermin 2, you will find three key photo spots, so be sure to whip out your cameras to capture the perfect shot of the trees and hills beautifully reflected on the waters.

Besides its magnificent ‘mirror lakes’, there are other attractions that can also be found in the area. Visitors can visit the Monkey Swing Playground, which is located by the entrance of Tasik Cermin. The playground is furnished with colourful wooden structures and is the perfect playtime spot for children.

Drop by the Rocky Sky Ladder just outside the entrance for yet another fun photo opportunity. This set of colourful stairs pops in any photo whilst offering a breathtaking view of the hills that encompass the area.

The Snake Mouth Cave is also another popular attraction at Tasik Cermin. Shaped like a snake’s throat, the cave invites you to journey along the walls whilst enjoying a close-up view of the limestones.

Getting to Tasik Cermin

Tasik Cermin is a 20-minute drive from Ipoh’s old town  which is the city’s heart where you can find heritage buildings, authentic local food and much more. Unfortunately, there is no public transportation direct to Tasik Cermin for now. The best way to get here is by car, as Tasik Cermin has a large free parking facility. Alternatively, visitors can also opt for e-hailing services such as Grab and taxis to reach Tasik Cermin.
